Project Description:
The works involves the main access roads towards the Jaber Al Ahmed City, Saad Abdullah Housing and Northwest Sulaibikhat Housing Projects along Jahra Road and Doha Spur Motorway. These roads are designated as Special Road Network (SRN) that is intended for fast and free-flowing through traffic and access control using grade-separated interchange. The project comprises of 6 individual contract sections, each relating to separate work type and distinctly separated. (1) IC 05 will be modified from the existing half clover leaf to diamond type configuration. The existing fly over bridge will be removed and reconstructed to a simple span to consider the smooth signalized operation. The bridge to be installed is a concrete pre-stressed box-girder type with a bored pile-type foundation. (2) IC 18 is designed to have a diamond shape configuration. Two (2) bridges will be installed for the north and south bound direction of the main access road. Both bridges to be installed have a bored pile-type foundation. The superstructure is concrete pre-stressed box-girder type. The retaining earth wall has a total length of 700m. (3) For IC 6, upgrading works involve the installation of U-turns and right turning lanes into the existing diamond type interchange to improve the accessibility and installation of new access roads. (4) The upgrading works for IC 19 involve mainly the change to a half-access interchange. (5) IC 14 is the interchange at the western terminus of Abu Dhabi Road - Jamal Abdul Nasser Street. Due to the limited clearance for the existing high-tension cable and having no underground utilities, depressed road (box tunnel) was designed to underpass Doha Spur Motorway. A link road was provided between this interchange and the existing interchange of Doha Spur Motorway with Jahra Road. (6) IC 15 is a diamond type interchange of Doha Spur Motorway crossing over Doha Street. The upgrade works cover widening of the interchange including of two (2) bridges. The bridges are designed to have a bored pile-type foundation and the superstructure is a concrete pre-stressed box girder type. The reinforced earth retaining wall will also be installed. The total road length is 8.308km.
